Born in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, Moich grew up in the nearby garden town of Letchworth. After graduating, Moich taught at the famous utopian liberal progressive school Monkton Wyld in 1966-68.

Among the significant experiences of his early years of training, he developed a friendship with the local rabbi, Rabbi Davis Salomon Sassoon, an eminent figure among the Sephardic Jews of the world. As a teenager, Moich told the rabbi: "If I go to pray, I need to know who or what I am praying". The rabbi answered: "imagine you are on the way to the best you can be, dialogue with that, use it as a form of prayer". This response will hit Moich and no doubt led to his later interest in non-dualistic philosophy and in particular the inquiry into: "Who am I?"
