Jean Claude Soulard
collection of pastels
Jean Claude Soulard grew up on the same school benches as Hubert de Givenchy. He is a career in fashion as his childhood friend, become one of the greatest French designers. While his perfumer friend celebrates the female body with the so-called "Séparates" dresses, Jean Claude Soulard creates the brand Esquimau, a sportswear brand established in the Pays d'Auge in Orbec. Stylist of the French heads of state, his drawings for haute couture of "outdoors" with the timeless Canadian have propelled him on the front of the international fashion scene. As a visual artist, Jean-Claude Soulard favors the oil pastel technique. His works bring life back to the landscapes and villages of Normandy where he settled in an Auge mill. Affectioning the juxtapositions of bright and shimmering colors, the artist creates a raw and indigent outline forms. The color appears as a structural protagonist of the compositions of the Norman painter. It gives matter and vibration to the subject. The works of Jean Claude Soulard are characterized by a figurative expression whose limits tend to be surpassed by a frank and frank sense of the drawing.
